Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a pedal cyclist, who was reportedly struck down by a drunk forest ranger.
The incident occurred sometime around 18:30hrs yesterday (June 11, 2018), along the Spring Garden Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
The dead man had been identified as 41-year-old Narine Sahadeo, a minibus conductor from Spring Garden.
The name of the 23-year-old forest ranger – whose blood alcohol level was reportedly found to be “exceedingly high” at the time of the accident – was not given.
According to police, the ranger, who was at the time driving motor car PPP 6851, was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway behind Sahadeo, when the vehicle collided with the 41-year-old.
Upon impact, Sahadeo fell to the ground and was picked up in an unconscious state.
He was pronounced dead on a arrival to the hospital.
The ranger was subsequently apprehended in Supeenam, after he fled the scene.
