The dream of becoming a homeowner will soon be in reach for two hundred families in Region Nine, Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo with the announcement of a $400M housing programme for that area.
During a recent visit to Lethem, Region Nine, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Lelon Saul, announced that each of these homes will cost $2M and will be built to specifications suited for the locations.
Noting that adequate housing is a basic human right and a constitutional guarantee, Saul added that ensuring eligible citizens in Guyana have access to affordable living solutions is a top priority, hence the construction of homes across the country.
Speaking on housing development in Region Nine, Saul said that the CH&PA is also addressing housing needs in such areas as Simoni, Sand Creek, Massara, Karasabai, and Krowdar. To date, approximately 50 houses have been constructed and this is with full house subsidies.
