A prison officer and an accused murderer are currently hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after being stabbed by a convicted killer this morning at the Timehri Prison.
The incident happened around 08:55 hrs.
Prison Director, Gladwin Samuels said that during routine checks at the prison this morning, the convicted killer stabbed the accused with an improvised weapon. The victim received eight stabs.
The Guyana Standard was told that prison guards intervened and during this process, one of the officers sustained two stab wounds—one to the arm and another to the temple. Both of the stabbed victims were rushed to the hospital.
The Prison Director said that the wounded murder accused on Friday had threatened to kill another prison officer at the facility and even created a ruckus at the facility last night by kicking a steel door.
It is suspected that the commotion created by the accused was what angered other inmates and eventually got him stabbed.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
