The man who murdered 26-year-old, Mark Bagot, at a rum shop in Phillipi Village, Corentyne, Berbice, on Monday, has surrendered.
The suspect, identified only as “Son,” walked into the Whim Police Station a few hours ago. He was in the company of his lawyer, Chandra Sohan.
Bagot, a Lieutenant in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and of Lot 21 Phillipi Village, Corentyne, was stabbed several times to the chest. He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital but was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died.
According to information received, the soldier and a friend were imbibing at the shop when the suspect, who is an old acquaintance, walked into the bar. The deceased’s friend reportedly asked the suspect to pay for their liquor which he did.
The Guyana Standard was told that the suspect stayed with the soldier and his friend at the bar and they continued imbibing. Reports are that when drinks were finished, the soldier ordered an additional three bottles of liquor and demanded that the suspect pay for them.
