Linesmen attached to several port facilities were recently exposed to crucial training and are therefore better equipped to carry out their duties. The training, which was facilitated by the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), was held at the Transport and Harbours Sports Complex on February 26, 2019.
Twenty-five persons from nine port facilities participated in the training session. The Port facilities that participated were: BOSAI Inc, China ZhonghaoInc, John Fernandes Limited, Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), Guyana National Shipping Corporation (GNSC), Guyana Oil Company Limited (GUYOIL), Rubis Guyana Inc, a private Contractor, and MARAD.
Presentations were done by the Harbour Master, Michael Tennant, and MARAD’s Senior Pilot, Lindsay Baird. Among the areas covered in the session were, ‘Safety’, Attire and Deportment’ and ‘Effective Communication’.
Coordinator of the training session was Dwain Nurse, MARAD’s Chief Port Security Officer. Mr. Nurse said that the session was aimed at improving the safety of Linesmen, and to ensure that effective communication is maintained between the Linesmen and Pilots.
