With a church service, the Guyana Police Force today marked the 50th anniversary of its Cooperative Credit Union.
The service, which was held at the Credit Union’s Camp Street, Georgetown building, saw the attendance of a number of ranks.
The morning’s event was initiated with a prayer by Woman Superintendent Marcelene Washington whose proclamation of high praises reverberated the room.
The Force’s Credit Union which was registered in 1969 under the Co-op Act of Guyana 8801 with registration number 1066, has been serving ranks well and has over the years enabled many of them to purchase vehicles, houses and even start their own business.
At the service Pastor Phillip Bowman delivered a dynamic sermon as he touched several issues concerning the welfare of the country and its citizens. He cited the Guyana Police Force as a blessing from God, using scriptures to corroborate his proclamation.
Pastor Bowman during his sermon also made reference to the days of old when “our people worked together, a time when class, race and other denominational aspects of life were nonexistent…we are one.”
Songs like ‘I Smile’, ‘I know Who I Am’ and ‘Worthy is the Lamb’, were belted out by those in attendance thereby forming what could have been easily described as the perfect choir.
Present at the ceremony were: Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leslie James DSS, DSM; the Chief Co-operative Development Officer (CCDO) Ms. Perlina Gifth; Deputy Commissioners Mr. Paul Williams DSM, Ms. Maxine Graham DSM, Assistant Commissioners Clifton Hicken and Royston Andries-Junor; Second In-charge Operations Senior Superintendent, Mr. Errol Watts; Director of Music Senior Superintendent Charmaine Stuart; Public Relations Officer Superintendent Ramlakhan and Manager of the Guyana Police Credit Union Assistant Superintendent Reynold Venture and other senior and junior ranks of the Force.
