Days after a Sophia woman received several stabs wounds, allegedly by the hands of her reputed husband, the man was this morning charged with attempted murder.
Derick Solomon, 60, of 210 Block ‘F’ North Sophia, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on March, 2,2019, he unlawfully wounded Carol London with the intent to murder her.
Solomon, who is a taxi driver, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on the day in question, the couple who shared a 14-year relationship had a misunderstanding at their home.
The court heard Solomon left the house for a while and, upon his return, he picked up a knife and dealt the woman several stabs about her body.
The injured woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation ( GPHC), where she remains a patient. She received injuries to her hands and face.
The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, hence Solomon was arrested.
The Prosecutor opposed to bail being granted to Solomon on the ground of the serious nature of the offence.
The prosecutor also pointed to the penalty the charge attracts and the fact that victim is still hospitalised in a serious condition.
The Magistrate after listening to the prosecutor remanded Solomon to prison. The unrepresented man was instructed to make his next court appearance on March 26.
