A 12-year-old was brutally raped in broad day light on Friday afternoon while doing her homework at the Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD) seawall. The suspect has since been arrested.
According to information received, the 12-year-old girl who attends a primary school on the East Coast Demerara went to the seawall with three other classmates to do their homework. The topic was based on the fermentation of rocks.
While collecting the rocks, the three schoolgirls were confronted by the suspect who was brandishing a knife.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that two of the girls ran but the victim, who was too scared to move, remained at the scene. The suspect raped her before escaping. The child was taken to the hospital by former Mayor of Georgetown, Sherod Duncan, and an off duty policeman who were jogging on the seawall.
It is unclear if it was the same duo who apprehended the suspect.
