Three persons lost their lives in separate accidents over the weekend. The police said that around 03:20 hrs this morning, an unidentified man jumped off the tray of a canter truck and had his head crushed by the vehicle’s rear wheel on the Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road.
He died on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). According to information received, the canter truck was proceeding west along the southern side of the Annandale Public Road with the deceased sitting in the tray of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle said that the deceased knocked on the top of the cap as an indicator for him to slow down—which he did. It is further alleged that the deceased attempted to jump off the vehicle but instead, fell onto the road. The Guyana Standard was told that the left rear wheel of the vehicle ran over his head. The driver, who is in police custody, rushed the victim to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim is yet to be identified.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old driver died last night when he lost control of his vehicle on the Experiment Bath Public Road, West Coast Berbice. The vehicle toppled several times with him inside. The deceased has been identified as Yognarine Jaggit of Lot 3D Bath Settlement WCB. He was driving motorcar PJJ 5229 around 21:00 hrs on Saturday.
The police said that the motor car was proceeding west along the southern side of the road at a fast rate when the driver lost control of the vehicle which toppled several times and ended up on the northern side of the road. Jaggit was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious state and taken to Fort Wellington Hospital where he was examined by a doctor and transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
He died whilst receiving medical attention.
The police are also investigating the death of a porter which occurred around 13:00 hrs on Saturday in the vicinity of the Kara Kara toll booth and the Guyana Forestry Commission at Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10. The dead man has been identified as Jomal Anthony.
According to information received, Anthony jumped onto a motor lorry GSS 1407, carrying trailer TMM 2242, to get a drop over the bridge but while on the truck, he reportedly lost his grip and fell off the truck and under its wheel.
