Almost two years after pulling out of Guyana, Fly Allways, a Suriname-based airline, is seeking to re-enter the market and has applied to the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) to operate scheduled services.
With plans to fly twice weekly, the airline will be operating flights between Paramaribo, Suriname; Georgetown, Guyana; Barbados; Havana, Cuba; Boa Vista; Curacao and Port of Spain.
The airline first entered the local market in August, 2016 and operated flights between Suriname, Guyana and Barbados for less than a year.
When asked about the reason for the airlines’ departure, the Director of the GCAA, Egbert Field said that it was because of a lack of customer support. “Poor market condition is the reason for them leaving. They were not getting enough customers for the flights so they left.”
He said that Fly Allways has now decided to return after re-assessing the market and seeing potential.
The Suriname-based airline applied for a two year licence but the GCAA is asking members of the public to submit written objections or representations.
“In accordance with the Civil Aviation (Licensing of Air Transport Service) Regulations 2001, the GCAA hereby advises the public that the following operator has submitted an application for the operation of scheduled air services,” a notice appeared in the daily newspapers today.
The GCAA said, “Members of the public may make representations and/or objections to the said application. Those making representations and/or objections shall state the specific grounds on which such are made and shall specify and desired conditions to be attached to the licence if granted.”
The Aviation Authority said that representations and/or objections shall be made in writing no later than March 25, 2019.
