Maintaining that the Government of Guyana has led the country into “unconstitutional territory”, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) early this morning urge members of the public to change their social media display photos to black to support their opposition to the Government remaining in power 90 days after the December 21 no confidence motion.
The party told persons to make the change at 12:01am this morning (Friday March 22), and urged them to also post the caption, “This is a dark day for Guyana. Our government is now illegal and they have effectively executed a coup d’etat by blatantly violating the Constitution. Our jobs, investments, rights and freedom are now at risk. Ministerial and Presidential decisions and orders are now illegal. Join the protests for our democracy.”
Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo, had said that his party would do everything to make the Government as “uncomfortable as possible”. Speaking recently at a press conference, he said, “Our target will be narrowly focused on the illegal President [President David Granger], Prime Minister and Ministers. We will not pursue violence but will make life very uncomfortable for them. We will seek international condemnation against this government…and will pursue sanctions against them and the PNC Commissioners of the Guyana Elections Commission.”
Today, the party also held a protest in Region 3 against what was deemed as “the illegal and unconstitutional government”.
