A one-legged man who is accused of chopping another man several times about the body was today slapped with an unlawful wounding charge.
The man, Ronald Seebachan, limped his way into Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan’s courtroom, where the charge was read to him.
The 34-year-old of Number Four Village, West Coast Berbice, denied the charge which stated that on March 29, 2019, at Aranka, Cuyuni River, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Leslie Mckenzie.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield, stated that on March 29, 2019 at Aranka, Mckenzie and Seebachan were involved in an argument.
Seebachan reportedly became annoyed and armed himself with a cutlass before dealing Mckenzie several chops about the body.
The injured man was then rushed to the Bartica Hospital where he was admitted. The matter was reported and Seebachan was arrested and taken into custody.
While the prosecutor made no objections to bail being granted to Seebachan, he asked that conditions be attached. Hence, the Magistrate released him on $70,000 bail and ordered him to report every Friday to the Bartica Police Station until the hearing and determination of the trial.
The father of two was instructed to make his next court appearance on April 11, 2019.
