The man accused of unlawfully killing a 13-month-old child by shooting her to the back was moments ago sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to a count of manslaughter.

According to reports, on October 18, 2015, Mark Angoy, 48, who was armed with a gun, stormed the Eastville Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara home of his ex-lover, Shelly Norton, Gill’s grandmother; he fired several shots. The baby, 13-month-old Arianne Gill, was shot in the process.

Gill’s 12-year-old aunt, Ashley Wellington, was shot to her left foot during the attack. It is reported that Angoy fled after the attack, but later surrendered to the police and gave a confession.

Angoy, formerly of Craig, East Bank Demerara, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter charge, admitting that he unlawfully killed the 13-month-old child.

Further, Angoy also pleaded guilty to a charge of felonious wounding which stated that on the same day, he unlawfully wounded Wellington with the intent to maim, disfigure or cause her grievous bodily harm.

Angoy, accompanied by his attorney, Mark Conway, was arraigned before Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Demerara.

On the charge of felonious wounding, Justice Singh sentenced him to eight years’ imprisonment. The Judge ordered that the fourteen and eight years’ sentences run concurrently.

Before the confessed killer was escorted to serve his jail time, Justice Singh advised him to take part in anger management classes which are offered by the prison service.
