A 48-year-old business woman is counting her lucky stars after she escaped death last night when her estrange partner, who is a former member of the Guyana Defense Force tried to shoot her.
Avia Abrams, a miner and vendor suffered a gunshot wound to her left hand. She was treated at the Bartica Regional Hospital and sent away.
The suspect, Desmond Hamer has since been detained and his firearm has been lodged.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that the suspect went to the woman’s business place and slashed the tyres of her vehicle last night. He then hid and waited on her to get into her vehicle.
According to information received, when the woman got to her car, she observed someone walking towards her with their face covered. As the individual got closer, he whipped out a gun and aimed at the 48-year-old woman.
Reports are that the victim managed to wrestle the suspect and in the process sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. By this time, persons in the area rushed to the woman’s aid and the suspect ran away. He was later arrested.
