The office of the Deputy Chief Education Officer of the Ministry of Education today handed over a wheelchair to Jeremiah Bailey who was referred to the Regional Centre for Stimulating Children, Youth and Adolescents with Special Education Needs associated with Disabilities.
Jeremiah was referred to the Centre to be re-evaluated to determine the level of support needed as he is scheduled to sit the upcoming National Grade Six Assessment.
In addition to the support needed for him to sit the exam, it was noted that Jeremiah’s mother had to physically take him from the car to the building and then to various departments where he accessed evaluations, owing to the fact that he did not have a wheelchair.
The Regional Centre for Stimulating Children, Youth and Adolescents with Special Education Needs, associated with Disabilities was birthed out of efforts to strengthen the CARICOM-Cuba programme of cooperation.
The Centre, located on the campus of the Cyril Potter College of Education, is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health with technical support from Cuban Specialists.
