A 27-year-old robbery suspect was shot late last night after he escaped from police ranks on High Street, Georgetown.
The wounded man has been identified as Seon Lamkil of ‘D’ Field, Sophia. He was shot to the abdomen and is hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
According to information received, the suspect was arrested yesterday afternoon by public-spirited persons and handed over to police ranks after he allegedly robbed two trainee nurses on Main Street, Georgetown.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that while the suspect was being escorted to the Diamond Police Station lockup, he jumped off from a pickup and ran. After a period of pursuit, he was shot by one of the ranks.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
