Well-placed sources at the Ministry of the Presidency have confirmed that former Minister of State, Joseph Harmon will continue to play a major role in government.

Guyana Standard understands that Harmon will be appointed this week to his new position—Director General—at the Ministry of the Presidency.

Sources say that President David Granger continues to place full confidence in Harmon but he had to resign in keeping with the High Court and Appellate Court rulings that dual citizens cannot be Members of Parliament.

Along with Harmon, Ministers Carl Greenidge, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine and Dominic Gaskin have resigned.

Guyana Standard understands also that the other three ministers will be appointed to prominent positions in government.

Additionally, new Members of Parliament are expected to be sworn in this week.

Reports are that the new members will not replace the resigned ministers as in the take up of their senior seats in the National Assembly, but “are being appointed to ensure that government has its right number of persons in the House.”
