A 74-year-old former manager of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) was found stabbed to death in his Springlands, Corentyne home this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Godfrey Branch. He only recently returned to Guyana to live. Investigators suspect that the elderly man was killed during a robbery since his house was ransacked.
A relative discovered the elderly man dead in his home this morning. He was last seen on Thursday night.
Guyana Standard has been informed that when the relative went to check on Branch this morning, his gate was locked.
“She said she called out for him a few times but he did not answer so she had to jump the fence and go in,” a police source said.
When the woman got into the yard, she discovered Branch’s door was ajar. Upon investigating, she found him lying in a pool of blood in the upper flat of the house.
This news agency has been informed that the bandits removed a DVR for the security cameras to the man’s home.
No one has been arrested as yet.
Branch is the third person to lose his life in a robbery for the week. Yesterday morning, 58-year-old Nalini Persaud, a grocer in Albouystown, was killed during a robbery at her home. Her husband was severely beaten.
And, on Tuesday, a 46-year-old mechanic, Somdat Ramgobin called “Rakesh,” was shot to the head during a robbery at his Parika backdam home, East Bank Essequibo.
