Kenkassie Lynch, who was on trial for the murder of 23-year-old Mocha, East Bank Demerara resident, Terrence Lanferman, was this afternoon found guilty of the crime by a 12-person jury at the High Court in Georgetown.
Sentencing for Lynch, formerly of Lot 110 CC Eccles, East Bank Demerara, was deferred until Thursday, May 30, 2019 for the presentation of a probation report.
The jury found that on June 1, 2015, at Lot 27 Nelson Street, Mocha, Lynch murdered Lanferman, a mechanic. According to reports, Lanferman resided at Mocha, East Bank Demerara and, on the day in question, Lynch, who was armed with a gun, knocked at Lanferman’s door and shot him. It was reported that Lanferman received gunshot wounds to the neck and chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
On Tuesday, May 7, 2019 Lynch opted to give an unsworn testimony in his defence after the prosecution closed its case by calling its final two witnesses, ranks of the Guyana Police Force.
Standing in the prisoner’s dock, Lynch told the 12-member jury, “I am innocent of this crime. I didn’t give Mr [Police Inspector Prem] Narine no statement. I could not read and write. They [the police] didn’t caution me and tell me anything about my rights. I didn’t get no call to my family.”
Lynch’s lawyer was Adrian Thompson. Prosecutor Tuanna Hardy, Abigail Gibbs, and Teriq Mohamed represented the State and called a total of 15 witnesses. Justice Navindra Singh presided over this trial.
