A Police Sergeant who is accused of inappropriately touching the leg of a woman who went to the Alberttown Police Station to make a complaint was today slapped with a sexual assault charge and released on $120,000 bail.

Norris Henry, 48, of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Henry, who is attached to the Alberttown Police Station, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that, on October 17, 2018 at Alberttown, Georgetown, he sexually assaulted the woman without her consent.

According to information, on the day in question, the victim went to the station and made a report. Shortly after, the officer and the woman left the station and went into a police vehicle to go and make an arrest.

It is alleged that while in the vehicle the officer placed his hands under the woman’s skirt and rubbed her legs. However, it was only recently that she made a report to the station alleging the assault.

The magistrate, after listening to the facts, released the man on $120,000 bail. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on May 21, 2019.
