The Buju Banton “I Am Legend” concert did not end on a happy note for Guyana’s top car racing champion Kristian Jeffrey who lost part of his ear this morning during a robbery.
According to reports, the young man was robbed at Flour Mill Road, Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD) less than an hour after the concert ended. Jeffrey and a friend had just left the Buju Banton show at the National Stadium in Providence, EBD, when they were held at gunpoint.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the two friends called a taxi but, due to traffic, the car took some time to arrive so they decided to walk and meet the driver.
While in the vicinity of Agricola, the victims were confronted by the armed bandits who robbed them of their cellular phones, cash, and jewellery.
Jeffrey, who won the Caribbean Group Four Championship twice, was shot during a confrontation with one of the men.
He was taken to the Balwant Singh Hospital for treatment.
In a statement, the young man explained, “After the show, we called a taxi to pick us up from the stadium but, owing to the heavy traffic, the taxi took a while. We decided to walk to meet the car.”
He added, “in the vicinity of Agricola, we were accosted by individuals with guns who proceeded to rob us of our possessions, including jewellery, phone, wallet. During a confrontation, I was shot to the right ear.”
No one has been arrested as yet.
