The Hinterland Electrification Company Inc. (HECI) in collaboration with the Guyana Electrical Inspectorate (GEI) has recently concluded electrical certification training in Lethem, Region Nine and Mabaruma, Region One.
Aspiring electricians from Lethem and Mabaruma were involved in an intensive one-week training programme. The facilitators of the training were Kevin Vickerie, Electrical Engineer; Abina Drakes, Project Assistant; Shamar Adams, Electrical Technician; and Stephen Williams, Electrical Inspector.
According to the HECI, the aim of this training was to bring unlicensed electricians to a level where they would be able to apply for one of the classes of electrical licences and to prepare them to be a part of the sponsored project facilitated by the Guyana Energy Agency. This project will include the changing of incandescent C.F.L lamps to light emitting diode (LED) in the near future. All successful participants will be working along with licensed contractors on the aforementioned project.
During the training, the areas taught included electricity basics, personal protective equipment, general electrical requirements, practical designing of a model domestic installation, and electrical definition, amongst other areas.
In Lethem, a total of 18 were trained, while Mabaruma had a total of 10 uncertified electricians who participated in the training programme.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has extended congratulations to all successful participants.
