A 66-year-old pensioner was late this afternoon found guilty by a jury of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2017.
The man, George Robin, committed the offence on February 6, 2017. He had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge upon his indictment before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the High Court in Demerara.
Although convicted, Robin maintained his innocence. The convicted rapist told the court that whatever happens in front of man can be only be judged by God. The elderly man was remanded to prison, and returns to court on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 for sentencing. Prosecutors Lisa Cave and Seeta Bishundial presented the case for the State.
