A teenager who attempted to smuggle a cigarette lighter into the East Ruimveldt Police Station for her child’s father was today charged and released on bail.
Seventeen-year-old Sharmaine Lamazon of Tucville, Georgetown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Lamazon denied the charge which stated that on June 9, 2019 at the East Ruimveldt Police Station, she brought a prohibited article for one Daniel Boutrim, a prisoner.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh had no objection to bail being granted. According to information, on the day in question, the teenager went to visit her child’s father at the East Ruimveldt Police Station. At the station, she handed over a box of food to an officer to give to Boutrim. However, when the officer searched the food, the cigarette lighter was found under the rice. The teenager was then told of the offence, taken into custody, and charged.
The magistrate, after listening to the facts, released Lamazon on $40,000 bail. The mother of one was instructed to make her next court appearance on July 18.
Last week, Boutrim appeared before the same magistrate where he was slapped with four charges, including two counts of using threatening language, inflicting grievous bodily harm, and escaping custody.
