Police ranks at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts along with ranks on patrol today had their work cut out for them after two prisoners escaped from a police bus in front of the courthouse.
Around 11:45 AM, a police bus arrived at the courthouse with two prisoners, Seon Ray and Navin Ally, and the lone driver, a police officer.
Soon after, the officer exited from the driver’s seat and went to open the door in order for the men to make their way into the courtyard.
However, when the rank opened the door, Ray and Ally, who were not wearing handcuffs or shackles, ran out the bus before dashing over the busy road, making their way onto Croal Street. The officer and other ranks from the courthouse chased after them, firing several shots in the process.
A plainclothes officer was able to apprehend one of the men while two officers who were on patrol in front of Demico House were able to apprehend the other one who ran in their direction.
Ray and Ally were then handcuffed and escorted back to the courthouse where they were later charged with robbery.
