One month has passed and investigators are yet to solve the murder of 47-year-old Indira Beepat called Jenny, whose body was found face down in a drain at Lust-en-Rust, near Dairy, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Furthermore, the Toyota Axio motorcar Beepat was plying her trade with as a taxi driver the night she disappeared has not been located as yet. A post mortem showed that the Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen resident was strangled.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that the investigating ranks have received a printout of the murdered woman’s phone record but to date, no effort was made to analyze the information that was provided by the phone company.
That vital information is in fact “sitting” on a senior detective’s desk. According to reports received, ranks were asked to get the identities and addresses of the persons whose numbers appeared on the woman’s phone record during the time she went missing but nothing has been done as yet.
The deceased worked with the Goed Fortuin taxi base. The dispatcher had indicated that the woman received a call and notified the base that she was going to do a private drop off but never returned.
“La Grange Station is dealing with the investigation so our ranks are not involved but based on information we got, these officers made no effort to find the people who called the woman before she went missing,” a police source said.
He added that relatives suspected that Beepat’s killer must be on her phone record because she would not pick up random people at night. “The family believes that the woman knows her killer and suspected that the killer called her phone. The police could have done more to solve this case but they are dragging their feet,” the rank said.
The woman left home on May 18, last, to go out and work at the taxi base a few villages away from her home but she never returned. It was a resident of Dairy who spotted her body the following day and notified the police ranks.
Beepat’s daughter, Tharishma, said that her mother would normally return home at 19:00 hrs but when she failed to do so that night, she became worried, and started calling her mother’s phone, but got no response.
The family made a missing person report the following day and the taxi driver’s body was found about an hour later.
