A 14-year-old boy was moments ago charged and remanded to the juvenile holding centre for the murder of another 14-year-old boy.
The unrepresented teenager appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on June 27, 2019 at Matthew’s Ridge, North West District, he murdered Joseph Bunbury, 14.
The matter was heard in-camera and members of the public and the media were asked to exit the courtroom.
According to information, on the day in question at around 12:30 hrs, Bunbury and his cousin Leslie Norton were at
a shop drinking when the defendant approached them and dealt Bunbury
several cuffs about his body. It was reported that Norton intervened and asked the teenagers to stop fighting.
However, the teenage defendant got upset and pulled out a knife from the waistband of his pants and stabbed Norton on his right hand. The teen then turned his attention to Bunbury and dealt him a stab to the left side of his chest.
Bunbury was then picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Matthew’s Ridge Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect then ran away from the scene. The matter was reported, an investigation was carried out, and he was later arrested and charged with the offence. The teenager was remanded until tomorrow when he will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for assignment.
