A 23-year-old man who is accused of robbing a man of his valuables was today remanded for the offence.
Tavell Jones, a maintenance man of East La Penitence, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He denied the charge which stated that on June 19, 2019, at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while being in the company of another and armed with a gun, he robbed Stephon Dass of two phones valued at $145,000 and $30,000 in cash.
According to information, on the day in question, the man was walking in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, when he was approached by the defendant and another individual. It was reported that the defendant, who was armed with a gun, told the victim to hand over his valuables to which he did. The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, and Jones was arrested and charged.
Prosecutor Adduni Inniss objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the serious nature of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts. The prosecutor also highlighted the fact that the defendant was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him.
The magistrate, after listening to the prosecutor, remanded Jones to prison until July 19.
