Construction worker Leon Fung-a-Fat, of Lot 162 Annandale South, East Coast Demerara, was last night killed in what relatives are describing as a hit and run.
A relative told Guyana Standard that the incident occurred sometime around 9 PM when the 31-year-old man departed his home to purchase items at a shop in the neighbouring village of Buxton.
Contrary to media reports, the family member said that Fung-a-Fat was not under the influence of alcohol and was riding his bicycle to the establishment when he was struck down.
The relative stated that, after the incident, Fung-a-Fat was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The relative said that no one has been arrested.
