A Kitty man was today sentenced to three years and fined $2M after being found guilty of trafficking nearly 5 kilograms of marijuana.
Forty-five-year-old Paul Smith of Kitty was on trial before Senior Magistrate Dylon Bess in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
This morning when the matter was called, the magistrate ruled that at the conclusion of the trial he found sufficient evidence against Smith; hence he sentenced the man to three years behind bars.
Smith had denied the charge which stated that on May 18th, 2018, at Kitty, he had 4.934 kilograms of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
According to information, ranks from the police Anti-Narcotics Unit went to Smith’s home and conducted a search that uncovered two salt bags in the lower flat containing the drugs. He was then arrested and charged with the offence.
