After spending two months on remand on a charge of escaping custody, a Jamaican today changed his not guilty plea to guilty and was sentenced to nine months for the offence.
Thirty-two-year-old Anthony Lynch, called ‘Russian’, had denied the charge which stated that, on January 7, 2019, at Eve Leary, Georgetown, he escaped while being in lawful custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters for exhibiting an obscene video. However, today he admitted to the crime.
Hence, Magistrate Daly handed down the custodial sentence on him. Lynch was previously sentenced to one year behind bars for sharing a nude video of his girlfriend. The Jamaican had pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on January 1, 2019, at 20 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he knowingly or without lawful justification exposed for public viewing an obscene matter, that is a video intending to corrupt public morale.
According to information, on January 1, 2019, Lynch posted an obscene video of his girlfriend on his WhatsApp status with the intent to corrupt public morale. A relative of the victim saw the video and reported the matter to the police.
An investigation was then carried out and Lynch was arrested and taken to CID for questioning. The court heard that while at the station, he was placed to sit on a bench and he ran out of the station and made good his escape. A search was then carried out and he was later rearrested, hence charged with the offence.
