A young man who is no stranger to the courts — and who currently has pending matters — was today charged with armed robbery once again.
Twenty-two-year-old Odinga Haywood, a labourer of Charlestown, Georgetown, is accused of robbing a man of two phones and cash.
Haywood denied the charge which stated that on May 29, 2019, at Charlestown, Georgetown, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Julius Hope of two phones valued at $96,000 and $10,000 in cash.
The unrepresented man appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
While the court prosecutor did not disclose facts in the matter, he asked that Haywood be remanded to prison on the grounds that he has charges of a similar nature before the courts.
Hence, he was remanded to prison until August 23.
Last year, Haywood was charged with robbing a man of his phone and cash. He denied the charge which alleged that on July 16, 2018, at Charlestown, Georgetown, while in the company of others and armed with a gun, he robbed Ayou Kadir of a gold chain valued at $340,000 and a phone worth $240,000. He had made an appearance before a senior magistrate where he was remanded but later granted bail for the offence.
He also has similar matters pending before the City Courts.
