A 19-year-old whom the court heard was caught riding a stolen motorcycle was today charged with being in possession of property suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.
Andrew Clarke of Rasville Housing Scheme, Georgetown, denied the charge which stated that on July 22, 2019, at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he had one black motorcycle in his possession, suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.
The unrepresented teen pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman stated that on July 14, the victim secured his motorcycle in his garage and went to bed. The court heard the following day the victim discovered his motorcycle missing and he reported the matter to the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost.
However, on July 22, ranks in the East Ruimveldt area saw the defendant acting suspiciously while riding the motorcycle. Hence, he was stopped, questioned about the motorcycle, and was unable to say to whom the motorcycle belonged. He was then arrested and taken to the station.
The victim was then contacted and, on arrival at the station, he was able to identify his motorcycle by the registration number. Magistrate McGusty, after listening to the facts, released Clarke on $60,000 bail. He was instructed to make his next court appearance on August 5.
