A shop owner was today released on $100,000 bail after being charged with operating a brothel.
Thirty-three-year-old Seon Dawson of First Avenue, Bartica, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He denied the charge which stated that between June 21 and June 28 at Red Man Shop, Upper Mazaruni, River, he operated a brothel at the said shop.
According to information, ranks from the Trafficking in Person (TIP) Unit and persons from the Ministry of Social Protection received information that underage girls and foreign nationals were at the shop prostituting. Hence, a party of police officers went to the location to conduct an investigation and they found several foreign nationals at Red Man Shop.
Dawson was then arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department where further investigation was carried out, hence the present charge.
The court prosecutor did not object to bail being granted to the defendant and Dawson was released on $100,000 bail.
The father of three was instructed to make his next court appearance on August 5 when he will appear before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
