A 30-year-old man was severely beaten this morning when two armed bandits invaded his Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam home and carted off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The attack happened around 14:00 hrs. Renny Juman was chopped more than 12 times while sleeping in the verandah of his two-storey home. He is currently hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
His mother, Shameela Ally, and stepfather, Mohamed Ishmael were also attacked by the men.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that the bandits scaled a fence and entered the house through a door which was mistakenly left open by Juman. They were armed with a cutlass and a crowbar.
According to Ishmael, Juman would usually close the door when he is ready to retire to bed but on this occasion, he fell asleep.
Reports are that when the men entered the house, they immediately went to the verandah and started firing chops at Juman.
Juman’s parents woke up while he was being chopped and they too were attacked by the men who demanded cash. Once the bandits got their hands on the valuables, they escaped.
The victim was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital but had to be transferred to the GPHC since the hospital does not have a working X-tray machine and key drugs.
