A Board of Inquiry (BOI) has deemed the dismissal of three Department of Public Service employees by recently-appointed Minister of Public Service Tabitha Sarabo-Halley as unlawful. The BOI further said that the terminated employees should be reinstated, Director-General (DG) of the Ministry of the Presidency Joseph Harmon revealed.
Harmon, during a post-cabinet press conference this morning, said that the recommendations made by the BOI were presented to the Ministry of the Presidency on July 25 and stated that Andrew Grant, Gail Williams, and Grace Dazzell should be immediately reinstated to their posts.
The three employees were dismissed by Minister Sarabo-Halley days after she was appointed as a minister. The employees were reportedly dismissed for misconduct and corruption allegations.
Harmon said the inquiry that was headed by Lance Carberry found that the letters issued to the staff were unlawful and the minister was advised to ensure due process is followed in the future regarding dismissals.
Harmon, a former minister of government, told the media that the dismissal of employees is an action that should be taken by the Permanent Secretary (PS) of ministries. However, at the time of the three terminations, the ministry had no such official, he said.
Last week Thursday, a new PS was appointed and Harmon has assured that efforts are being made to have those three employees reinstated at the department.
