His Excellency K.J. Srinivasa, the newly appointed Resident High Commissioner for the Republic of India to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, today called on Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Karen Cummings.

Dr Cummings congratulated the High Commissioner on his appointment to serve in Guyana. Their meeting came before the High Commissioner’s submission of his letters of credence.

They discussed bilateral and regional development in addition to the existing high level of cooperation between the two countries.

In 2018, the two countries signed Memorandums of Understanding on Renewable Energy and Cultural Cooperation and also signed and ratified the International Solar Alliance, an initiative of India to promote the use of solar energy. So far, 122 countries have signed. Furthermore, Guyana and India have collaborated in the areas of infrastructure, energy, information, and communications technology (ICT) as well as agriculture along with a number of scholarships and training programs offered to Guyanese through the India Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme.

Following his meeting with Minister Cummings, Dr. K.J. Srinivasa presented his Letters of Commission to President David Granger. He succeeds former High Commissioner, V. Mahalingam.

Guyana and India continue to share strong bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations on May 26, 1966.
