The 17-year-old who was stabbed on Thursday when he tried to defend his two female friends from a lone bandit on a bicycle is still clinging to life.
Omesh Lakeram was stabbed to the chest at La Parfait Harmonie village, West Bank Demerara (WBD) around 18:45 hrs.
He is currently in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)’s Intensive Care Unit.
No one has been arrested as yet.
According to information received, the victim and the two girls had just exited a bus and were walking into their village when they noticed the pedal cyclist trailing behind them.
Before the victims could react, the lone bandit attacked the girls and grabbed onto their bags, causing Lakeram to intervene.
Guyana Standard was told that the bandit and Lakeram wrestled until the 17-year-old was stabbed.
The bandit escaped while Lakeram was rushed to the hospital where he remains hospitalized.
The investigation is ongoing.
