A 24-year-old motorcyclist died around 22:40 hrs last night when he reportedly lost control of his bike and crashed into a female pedestrian at Number 40 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
The deceased has been identified as graphic artist Latchman Hansraj of Bath Settlement while the pedestrian has been identified as Franyels Rondon. Hansraj was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he succumbed. Rondon, on the other hand, was treated and sent away.
According to information received, the now-dead man was heading home from an annual horseracing competition in Berbice when tragedy struck. The police said that Hansraj first struck down Rondon then crashed into a vehicle that was parked on the roadway.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the hospital where he succumbed. It is suspected that the young man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
