A 45-year-old miner killed the mother of his eight children this afternoon, then attempted to take his own life at their Nabacalis Sideline Dam, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.
The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Vinnette Headley-James. She was stabbed multiple times about the body.
James died at the scene while her husband, Sherlock James, is hospitalized after he attempted to kill himself with the same knife he used to stab his wife.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that the suspect went home early today after spending sometime in the interior location.
Reports are that when he went home, the victim and her husband got into an argument when the woman informed him that she was leaving.
In the heat of the argument, the suspect reportedly took a knife and stabbed his wife multiple times.
The victim died at the scene while the suspect was taken to the hospital where he remains under guard.
