A Venezuelan woman who admitted to stealing deodorants, razors, beef cuts, and chicken feet from the Bounty Supermarket was today charged and sentenced to three weeks of community service.
Twenty-seven-year-old Oliamith Gonsalves pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on August 24 at Regent Street, Georgetown, she stole two deodorants, two razors, beef cuts, and chicken feet totalling $5,490, which were the property of Bounty Supermarket.
The unrepresented woman appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh stated that on the day in question, Gonsalves went to the Bounty Supermarket and was observed by a security guard acting in a suspicious manner. The security guard then approached her and requested to carry out a search; the items were found in Gonsalves’ possession. The police were then called in and she was arrested.
The magistrate, after listening to the facts, sentenced Gonsalves to three weeks of community service which is to be performed at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
A teary Gonsalves, upon hearing the sentence, said, “I am willing to do the community service.”
