A Kitty man was today sentenced to three months imprisonment after pleading guilty to an assault charge.
Twenty-nine-year-old Roshawn Gonsalves of David Street, Kitty, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on September 4, 2019, at David Street, Kitty, he assaulted a woman.
Gonsalves appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh state that on the day in question, the victim was at home putting her child to sleep when the Gonsalves showed up.
The court heard that the two got into an argument and Gonsalves picked up a wire cable and dealt her several lashes about her body.
The victim then went to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was treated for her injuries.
The matter was then reported and following investigation Gonsalves was arrested, hence charged for the offence.
Magistrate Daly after listening to facts sentenced Gonsalves to three months behind bars.
