A former member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), who was remanded to prison in 2017 for allegedly harbouring prison escapees, was on Monday charged for discharging of an illegal firearm.
Teon Allen, also called “Spoil Child,” appeared before Magistrate Wonda Fortune in the Linden Magistrate’s Courts where he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on bail.
He was instructed to make his next court appearance on October 7.
Allen, who was wanted by the Police for two attempted murder allegations committed on Denise Grant and Tiffany Mc Deth, turned himself over to the police last week.
Police received advice to charge him after video footage surfaced showing a male, suspected to be him, discharging several rounds.
Allen was also before the court for being in possession of an illegal AK-47 rifle was remanded to prison on August 30, 2017, for allegedly harbouring wanted men, Uree Varswyck and Mark Royden Williams, who broke out of the Camp Street prison on July 9, during a fire and riot.
He denied the charge which alleged that between July 9 and 23, he relieved, received, comforted, maintained and assisted Varswyck and Williams.
Varswyck and Williams are said to be the masterminds behind the jailbreak and fire which left Prison Officer Odinga Wickham dead and five other wardens injured.
Williams was on death row after he was convicted for killing close to two dozen persons in the Bartica and Lusignan Massacres back in 2008. He was handed the death sentence by now Chief Justice (ag) Roxanne George earlier in 2017.
