An 18-year-old man was today released on $75,000 bail after being slapped with three charges.
Shamar Sears appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
The first charge stated that on September 27 at Robb Street, Georgetown, while being in company of others, he robbed Alfredo Rodrigues of a phone valued $30,000.
The second charge stated that on the same day, at Cornhill Street, Stabroek, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged one shirt valued $3,000, property of Trevor Clement.
The last charge stated that on the same day and at the same location, he resisted arrest from Police Constable Clement.
Sears denied all the charges after they were read to him.
It was reported that on the day in question , Rodrigues was walking along Robb Street, Georgetown, when Sears and others approached him and robbed him of his phone.
Rodrigues reported the matter and a City Police who was on Cornhill Street, Stabroek, Georgetown, saw Sears and approached him.
The court heard the officer attempted to arrest the accused but the two got into a scuffle and Sears held on to the City Police shirt causing it to damage in the process.
Sears was eventually arrested and taken into custody where he was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him, hence the present charge.
The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, released Thomas on $75,000 bail. He was instructed to report to the City Constabulary every Monday and Friday until the hearing and determination of the trial.
He was also expected to make his next court appearance on December 17.
