Dornel Hopkinson, who was at Palm Court last October when Imran Khan allegedly attempted to kill Romario Baljeet called “Short Boss,” was unable to identify the accused even as he sat in the prisoner’s dock in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today.
Imran Khan, 31, of Austin Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on October 28, 2018, at Main Street, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Baljeet, with the intent to murder him.
Hopkinson, who is said to be a friend of “Short Boss”, took to the witness box where he gave a lengthy testimony as to what transpired on the night in question.
About 45 minutes into his testimony, Hopkinson was asked by Special Prosecutor, Latchmie Rahamat to look around the courtroom and point out Baljeet’s attacker.
Hopkinson, with a smile on his face, looked around the courtroom which had six reporters, Imran Khan sitting in the prisoner’s dock, two of his relatives and three police officers. However, told the court that he did not see Khan anywhere in the room.
The Prosecutor, who had a shocked look on her face, asked the witness if he understood the question that was put to him.
However, Attorney-at-law Glen Hanoman, who is representing Khan, objected to her rephrasing her question citing that the question was already answered.
Hence, the Prosecutor had to move on to the next question.
Hopkinson was then told to return to court on October 21 to continue giving his testimony.
It was reported that on October 28, 2018, at 02:00 hrs, Baljeet and some friends were leaving the Palm Court night club when they were confronted by Khan who was standing at the gateway.
As a result, Baljeet walked between Khan and his friends. This seemingly annoyed Khan, who in turn dealt Baljeet several punches to his head and face, causing him to fall to the ground.
It was while Baljeet was on the ground that Khan took a glass bottle and slashed him on his right side face.
Khan then continued to kick and cuff the victim while he was laying on the ground.
Baljeet, who was unconscious, was then picked up and rushed to a private institution where he underwent surgery.
