As investigation continues into the fatal shooting of Eon Williams in Linden last Saturday, Divisional Commander, Courtland Winter, said that his ranks were forced to release the mother of the prime suspect from custody since there were no evidence to charge her.
The woman, Denise Grant, was arrested after it was discovered that the car used by the gunmen to execute the 24-year-old and injured his girlfriend, Malita Antigua, belonged to her son. She later revealed that she had rented the car to someone but only knew the individual’s nickname.
Grant’s son is the prime suspect in Williams’ murder and is said to be the leader of a gang that is operating in Cayenne. At the time of the shooting, he was in the French speaking country but investigators suspect that two members from his gang killed Williams at his request.
While it has been confirmed that the deceased does not have a criminal history, it was discovered that his cousin, ex-cop Teon Allen called “Spoil Child” is heading a gang in Linden that is said to be in rivalry with the Cayenne gang.
In fact, Williams’ death is said to be in retaliation to a shooting which occurred early last month where a man believed to be Allen is recorded on surveillance footage shooting at Denise Grant and another female relative of the Cayenne gang leader.
For that shooting, Allen was charged and placed on $50,000 bail. “We are looking for gang members and we have to question the prime suspect,” the commander said.
On the night of the shooting, Williams left his home in Wismar, Linden and went to pick up his girlfriend from a birthday party at Amelia’s Ward.
According to information received, Williams had parked between First and Third Streets, Amelia’s Ward and was talking to Antigua when the two gunmen started shooting at them. The 24-year-old managed to drive off but the men followed him to Lover’s lane where they killed him.
They abandoned their vehicle and escaped on foot.
