A young man, who attempted to rob a woman at the Popcaan show at the National Park, was today charged for robbing the said woman in the Rio Night Club. He allegedly trailed her there.

Twenty-two-year-old Travis Allen of West Ruimveldt, Housing Scheme, Georgetown appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.

It is alleged that on August 18, 2019, at  Forshaw Street, Georgetown, he robbed Lakresha Parks of a phone valued $170,000 and $43,000 cash.

Allen, who is said to be a labourer, at Bourda Market, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him.

He was represented by Attorney-at-law Clyde Forde who asked that his client be released on reasonable bail.

However, Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the serious nature of the allegation and the penalty the charge attracts.

The prosecutor also highlighted the fact that the defendant was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed her.

Facts presented by the prosecutor stated that on the day in question, the woman was leaving the Popcaan show when the defendant approached her and held on to her bag. The woman then raised an alarm and the defendant let go of the bag and made good his escape.

However, shortly after, the woman went to the Rio Nigh Club where she was partying and the defendant went up to her with a Hennessy bottle and dealt her several lashes to her face and body before relieving her of the articles mentioned in the charge. He thereafter made good his escape.

The woman then went and reported the matter to the Brickdam Police Station and ranks acting on information went to Leopold Street and arrested the defendant.

The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, released Allen on $150,000 bail.

Condition of the bail is that he lodge his passport with the court.

He was instructed to make his next court appearance on November 6, 2019.
