A 59-year-old rice farmer was gunned down inside of his yard at Number Eight Village, West Coast Berbice late last night by three gunmen, who escaped without taking the cash the victim had in his possession.
The deceased has been identified as Gregory Adolphus Reynolds. He was shot to the chest sometime around 22:30 hrs. The three gunmen reportedly hid in his yard and waited on him to arrive home before shooting him.
Guyana Standard has been informed that the rice farmer went out to collect money from persons who had owed him in the village. During preliminary investigations, police leaned that when he returned home, the farmer noticed three persons inside of his yard and inquired as to what they were doing there.
Based on information received, one of the gunmen immediately whipped out his weapon and shot at the 59-year-old before escaping. The gunmen made no attempts to search the victim for valuables—leaving investigators to believe that the rice farmer’s death was not robbery related.
Reynolds was an APNU/AFC Councilor for the Woodlands Bel-Air Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC) in Region Five.
