The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago in collaboration with stakeholders here will be hosting a Safety Forum and Trade Show at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The event is being held to impress upon the private sector the importance of having Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Management Systems in place so that it can be in a better position to access most of the oil and gas supply chain opportunities.
Some of the speakers billed for the forum include Dr. Thackwray Driver, President and CEO of the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago; Gwen King, an Occupational Safety and Health Consultant within the Ministry of Social Protection; Jon Regina, Logistics Manager at ExxonMobil Guyana; and Dr. Vincent Adams, Head of the Environment Protection Agency.
During an exclusive interview with the Guyana Standard, Dr. Driver stressed that it is critical for Guyanese businesses to invest in HSSE systems since it makes them more competitive in the industry.
“With ExxonMobil, Repsol and Tullow, you have to prove that you have systems to protect the health and safety of workers…So this is an important aspect to look at. It will lift the standards of the private sector and help them to get more out of the industry,” the CEO of T&T’s Energy Chamber expressed.
Further, Dr. Driver confidently stated that the forum would be an enlightening one for attendees given the many success stories and lessons Trinidadians are poised to share with Guyanese tomorrow.
