“I load up his flash drive with music and he refused to pay me so I chop him with a cutlass and run away,” were the words of a man who pleaded guilty to a wounding charge.
Twenty-five-year-old Shawn Lee appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts.
It is alleged that on July 11, 2019, at George and Norton Streets, Werk-en-rust, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm, Lee unlawfully and maliciously wounded Dellon Foster.
An unrepresented Lee pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge after it was read to by the Magistrate.
In his explanation to the court, Lee stated that the victim asked him to transfer music to his flash drive, and he did.
He added that upon completion, he asked the victim to pay him but he refused. He then became annoyed and dealt him several chops about his body before making good his escape.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman stated that on the day in question, the victim and the defendant were involved in a heated argument during which the defendant pulled out a cutlass and dealt the victim several chops about his body.
The injured man was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was treated for his injuries and sent away.
The matter was then reported and following an investigation, the defendant was arrested and charged for the offence.
The victim, who was present in court, stated that he is willing to accept $300,000 as compensation to finish the matter.
Hence, Magistrate McGusty remanded Lee to prison until he comes up with the $300,000 to compensate the victim.
The father of one is expected to make his next court appearance on October 25.
